Southwind Farms, on the historic La Bahia Trail north of Brenham in Washington County, announces a full roster of equine boarding and training services.

Under reorganized management, new owner Herman Detering has refurbished the long-established stables as a major center for Natural Horsemanship classes, conferences and special events. Manager Clynt Raley, a well-known Texas horseman, is in charge of day-to-day operations. Clynt starts colts under saddle, works with problem horses and offers riding instruction. Owner Herman Detering, a third generation Texas rancher, specializes in low-stress groundwork with both horses and cattle. He is also a published writer, whose articles have appeared in Pat Parelli’s Savvy Times, The Brahman Journal, and The Cattleman.

Currently, instruction is available in groundwork, colt starting, and riding. We will be adding instruction in specific disciplines in the future. An extensive video and book library is  being set up, as well as study groups for both amateurs and professionals.

We are offering 40 stalls for boarding, 200 acres for pasturing and riding, an 80 x 300 foot lighted indoor arena, and a 150 x 250 foot outdoor arena. Multiple round pens, obstacle courses and a mechanical horse are also available to help with training the horse and rider.
